Author's Comments

This is an idea I had a few days ago. I thought: "Hey. There's tons of fantasy literature using so-called Elemental magic using the classical elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Why don't I come up with a series of "modern" elements and my own system of elemental magick and familiars associated with it?"

This outline focuses mainly on the familiars associated with the classical elements and used by magic users and a general comparison with my modern elements of Hydrocarbon*, Metal**, Actinoid***, and Electricity****.

-Author's Note-
At this point, the familiars listed under the Modern Elements are up for debate, especially the example under Hydrocarbon. Seriously. That one needs work.

Also, if you are intrigues by this idea and want to either collaborate written ideas or offer concept art for Modern familiars or classical versus modern familiars, just let me know.

*Hydrocarbon is essentially crude oil, or petroleum

**Metal here refers essentially to any of the Transtion Metals from the Periodic Table of Elements

***Actinoid [formerly Actinide] refers to the Inner-Transition elements of the same name on the wide periodic table of elements

****I couldn't think of anything better >>;;;;

Hmm...it's a thought. It covers a lot of the elements seen in stories and games. Makes for a simple guide.

Though you also could mention that lightning is also commonly used as an incarnation of wind more often than an incarnation of its own element.

Tis a lifetime to find something worth searching for...

...but just an instant to mourn its loss.

Well, see, here's the thing. In modern times, the wind (Air) was a powerful means of propulsion (sea-faring ships) as well as the propulsion behind ancient turbines (windmills, etc.). In modern times, pretty much the only thing "controlled" by wind are the small number of turbine electrical generators. And thus, wind is only a minor part in the much bigger monster that is electricity...

I hope I made sense there ^^;
